St. John Basilone, Patron of Marine Machine Gunners

Price range: $25.99 through $28.99

Description

This USMC shirt honors the Patron Saint of Marine Machine Gunners: St. John Basilone. It’s said he watches over all 0331s…perhaps not patiently, and certainly not without the appropriate profanity, but honestly, would you want it any other way?

Maybe some of you would…but the machine gunners damn sure won’t.

John Basilone, Patron Saint of Machine Gunners

“O Saint Basilone, patron of all 0331s, make us instruments of your wrath. Do thou, O Gunny of gunners, make my direct fire deadly and accurate. Let me not fucketh up my range cards, nor misplace my cone of fire. Guide my plunging fire to slaughter the foe, and let my gun’s beaten zone become a metaphor for slaughter. Maketh my grazing fire stacketh the bodies high, and let me always answer the call, GUNS UP!”

Amen

John Basilone, USMC

John “Manila John” is the only enlisted Marine in World War II who was awarded the nation’s highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, as well as the Navy Cross (the second highest, for Sailors and Marines). He was awarded the Medal of Honor for actions on Guadalcanal and was rotated home to help with a war bond tour.

“I ain’t no officer, and I ain’t no museum piece. I belong back with my outfit.” ~Sgt. John Basilone

That didn’t last long. He reenlisted and returned to the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was subsequently killed in action on 19 February 45 on the first day of the landing on Iwo Jima. He is the only Medal of Honor recipient in the war to return to combat afterward and later be killed in action.

You’ll look good while yelling “Die mother-fucker die!” Even more so if you’re rocking it with boots and utes. (Though we must warn you, we haven’t convinced the CMC that he should authorize these.)
